Mastercard survey: Six out of 10 Greek businesses consider the risk of cyberattacks high
A recent Mastercard survey found that 60% of Greek businesses perceive a high risk of cyberattacks, with many reporting being targeted by phishing attempts.
A recent survey conducted by Mastercard in collaboration with Focus Bari highlights a growing concern among Greek businesses regarding cyber threats. The survey indicates that 80% of the respondents have experienced phishing or scam attempts within the past year, and a significant proportion of businesses (74%) believe that the threat landscape will worsen in the near future. Despite advancements in cybersecurity measures, critical gaps in preparedness remain evident, raising alarms about the overall security posture of these organizations.
The findings reveal that more than six out of ten businesses view the risk of cyberattacks as a serious issue. Notably, half of these businesses have identified cybersecurity as a top strategic priority, indicating a recognition of the need for enhanced security measures. However, the survey also points out a concerning disparity in capabilities, with only 27% of companies having specialized personnel dedicated to managing cyber threats. A majority (55%) attribute these risks to human factors, such as employee negligence, indicating potential areas for improvement in training and awareness.
Mastercard's Cyber Insights data underscores the prevalence of various cyber threats, noting that malware, ransomware, and phishing collectively account for nearly 50% of reported incidents in Greece. The focus of these attacks tends to be on capturing sensitive personal and financial information from customers, thereby intensifying the urgency for businesses to shore up their defenses. The financial sector, in particular, is identified as a high-risk area, emphasizing the critical need for comprehensive cybersecurity strategies across all sectors to protect against these evolving threats.
