Research by Mastercard: Six out of ten Greek businesses consider the risk of cyberattack high

A recent Mastercard survey indicates that 80% of Greek businesses have experienced phishing or scamming attempts, with over 60% identifying the risk of cyberattacks as high.

A new report released by Mastercard in collaboration with Focus Bari reveals that cyberattacks have moved from hypothetical threats to real dangers for many Greek businesses. Specifically, 80% of the surveyed companies reported facing phishing or scamming attempts within the last year, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures. Furthermore, 74% of participants in the survey believe the threats will intensify in the months ahead, indicating a growing concern regarding digital security.

The research highlights significant gaps in the preparedness of businesses despite some progress in the market. Over 60% of participants perceive the risk of cyberattacks as high, while half have made cybersecurity a top strategic priority. Alarmingly, only 27% have specialized personnel dedicated to managing cyber threats; this poses a grave risk, particularly when 55% identify human behavior and carelessness amongst employees as the most significant risk factor in cybersecurity breaches.

Additionally, the findings from Mastercard’s Cyber Insights reveal that malware and ransomware are prevalent threats, further emphasizing the urgent need for businesses to bolster their cybersecurity frameworks. As Greek businesses confront evolving digital landscapes, investing in training and robust security measures will be crucial in mitigating risks associated with cyberattacks and safeguarding sensitive information.
