Kyriakos Mitsotakis: The energy 'heart' of Eastern Europe beats in Alexandroupolis - Program for 2,000 subsidized positions from DYPA in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the under-construction thermal power station in Alexandroupolis, which aims to bolster Greece's energy infrastructure and security in the region.
During his tour in Evros, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the construction site of a combined cycle thermal power station in Alexandroupolis with a capacity of 840MW. This facility, under development with an investment exceeding 400 million euros from DEI and DEPA Commerce, is expected to significantly enhance Greece's energy infrastructure, supporting not only domestic needs but also providing energy security for the broader region. The power station is slated to be integrated into the national electrical grid by 2027 and will create 80 permanent jobs, as noted in a statement from the Prime Minister's press office.
Mitsotakis emphasized that this project places Greece at the center of geopolitical and energy developments in a wider area, further solidifying the country's strategic role in the energy landscape of Eastern Europe. The Prime Minister's visit was particularly significant, occurring just a day after major announcements in Washington concerning the activation of the Vertical Corridor, which aims to improve energy transportation routes across the region.
This initiative is a part of Greece's broader efforts to enhance its energy independence and stability amid ongoing regional tensions. By investing in state-of-the-art energy infrastructure like the Alexandroupolis power station, Greece is not only striving to meet its own energy demands but also positioning itself as a key player in the European energy market, potentially extending its influence and collaboration with neighboring countries in energy security initiatives.
