Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Kypouses Evros: With the modernization works, we will have the entrance and exit to Turkey that we deserve
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of upgrading the Kypouses border station to improve Greece's entry and exit to Turkey during his site visit.
During his recent visit to the Kypouses border station in Evros, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the ongoing modernization and expansion works at the facility, stating that the current state of the border station does not reflect the countryโs stature. He asserted that the completion of these projects, along with a new large bridge to be constructed later, is crucial for providing Greece with the dignified and functional entry and exit points it deserves to Turkey. The Prime Minister was informed about the progress of these works, which are on schedule, by the Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace, Dimitris Galamatis.
The project, with a budget of โฌ13 million, is being funded by the Ministry of Interior, overseen by the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace. Mitsotakis pointed out that an important aspect of this upgrade will be the separation of passenger traffic from commercial traffic, which is expected to streamline border crossings and enhance efficiency. This development not only aims to improve the infrastructure but also represents a significant investment in Greece's economic relations with Turkey, signaling a move towards better cooperation and traffic management between the two countries.
As Greece continues to navigate its geopolitical challenges, these modernization efforts at the Kypouses border station reflect a broader strategy to reinforce its border capacities. Enhancing border facilities like Kypouses could play a critical role in not only facilitating smoother transit for individuals and goods but also in reaffirming Greece's position as a critical gateway to Europe from Asia. The Prime Minister's remarks indicate a commitment to improving national infrastructure that is vital for various economic and political considerations in the region.
