Railway.gov.gr launched - Real-time precision satellite tracking
Greece launches Railway.gov.gr for real-time satellite tracking of its national railway network, becoming the first country to implement such technology.
The Greek railway system has entered a new era of digital monitoring with the launch of Railway.gov.gr, aimed at enhancing the precision of satellite technology for continuous observation of the national railway network. This initiative makes Greece the pioneering country to adopt a combination of high-precision satellite technologies for tracking trains.
Presented by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, during a press briefing, the system allows citizens to monitor passenger train routes, starting with the main Athens-Thessaloniki corridor. The Ministry's plan outlines that by the end of March, the installation of equipment on all trains from Piraeus to the northern borders will be completed, with full coverage expected one month later.
Railway.gov.gr is a product of Greek technological innovation, showcasing the country's commitment to modernizing its transport infrastructure. The initiative reflects significant advancements in digital technologies within Greece's public transportation sector, which aims to improve service efficiency and reliability for users.
