Railway: The railway.gov.gr application goes live – Real-time train tracking on the Athens-Thessaloniki corridor

The Greek government launched the railway.gov.gr application for real-time tracking of trains between Athens and Thessaloniki, aiming to improve transparency and regain public trust in rail travel.

Starting today at 5 PM, the railway.gov.gr application has been launched by the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. This initiative was announced during a meeting with accredited journalists by Deputy Minister Constantinos Kyranakis and Secretary-General of Transport Stelios Sakaretsios. The application aims to provide real-time visibility of train movements with delays of only a few minutes, serving as a key effort to restore public confidence in the rail system following past issues.

The slogan 'Never again trains on the same line' reflects the government's commitment to safety and reliability in rail travel. With this new application, citizens will have the ability to track all passenger trains operating on the main Athens-Thessaloniki rail corridor directly from their computers, tablets, or smartphones. This feature will offer insights into train movements and delays, going beyond existing information displayed at station screens, thereby enhancing the customer experience for passengers.

This move is seen as a critical step in modernizing the Greek rail system, which has faced various challenges in recent years. By providing up-to-date information to travelers, the government hopes to not only improve service efficiency but also encourage more people to choose rail transportation over other means, thereby boosting public transport usage in Greece.
