TJ-SP maintains acquittal of Felipe Prior in rape case in the interior
The TJ-SP upheld the acquittal of former Big Brother Brasil contestant Felipe Prior in a rape case from 2018, concluding that criminal responsibility was not proven.
The 3rd Criminal Law Chamber of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) has upheld the decision from the first instance that acquitted Felipe Prior, a former contestant on Big Brother Brasil, of charges of raping a woman in 2018 during the InterFAU university games held in Itapetininga, São Paulo. The judges reached a unanimous decision that Prior's criminal responsibility was not sufficiently evidenced, and he maintains that the encounter was consensual. The case is still subject to appeal, as it is under secrecy of justice.
Felipe Prior's defense, represented by Kehdi Vieira Advogados, has chosen not to comment on the verdict. Continued legal challenges loom for Prior, who faces three other accusations in the judicial system. Notably, in one previous case dating back to 2014, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) recently upheld an eight-year prison sentence for Prior, who is required to serve his sentence in a semi-open regime.
This ruling sheds light on the ongoing legal troubles faced by Prior, as well as the complexities involved in sexual assault cases in Brazil, where issues of consent and the burden of proof are critical. The outcome of this case may have broader implications for public discussion around sexual violence and accountability within the context of celebrity culture in Brazil.
