Building a new Zarasai bypass: the municipality calls it a historic breakthrough
The Lithuanian Ministry of Transport has commissioned a new bypass for the town of Zarasai, aimed at improving road safety and reducing air pollution.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Transport, through its authorized company Via Lietuva, has announced plans to construct a new bypass for the town of Zarasai. This initiative aims to redirect transit traffic away from the city, thereby decreasing the number of traffic accidents and mitigating noise and air pollution. The municipality has hailed this project as a historic breakthrough that will significantly enhance regional transportation infrastructure.
The project involves selecting a contractor through a competitive bidding process, which will lead to the signing of a contract and the assurance of executing the VPSP (Road Transport Development Program). The ministry has stressed the necessity of establishing a modern and functional roadway that meets the long-term needs of the region, thereby contributing to economic development and ensuring safer traffic conditions.
Financing for the project is secured through the state budget, as indicated in Lithuania's transport development program outlined for 2022-2030, with annual payments scheduled from 2031 to 2051. Alongside road construction, the detailed partnership agreement will stipulate the responsibilities of all parties involved, risk allocations, and other critical operational components, thereby laying the groundwork for successful project deployment.
