The Museum of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Expands Horizons of Understanding Lithuanian History and Heritage

The Museum of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is set to present two international exhibitions and new publications related to Lithuanian history and cultural heritage.

On February 27, at 12 PM, the Museum of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania will unveil two international exhibitions titled "Old Lithuania in the Watercolors of Napoleon Orda" and "The Pidhirci Palace: History and Art Collections" at the Litexpo event space. Accompanying these exhibitions, new catalogues and an exhibition guide will also be introduced, as well as a comprehensive chronicle detailing the museum's activities between 2017 and 2020. This event is expected to provide insights into Lithuania's rich history and the developments at the museum over recent years.

The book "Old Lithuania in the Watercolors of Napoleon Orda" narrates the life and works of Napoleon Orda (1807–1883), who was one of the most multifaceted creators and public figures in 19th century Lithuania. The publication reveals the architectural landscape of 19th century Lithuania, which was systematically destroyed by the Russian Empire. It showcases religious buildings, cityscapes, castles, palaces, and estates, capturing the legacy of those who fought for Lithuania's statehood through carefully rendered watercolors by the artist. The texts within the book are presented in both Lithuanian and English.

This presentation not only highlights significant historical figures and their contributions but also emphasizes the importance of preserving national heritage during a time when much of it is vulnerable to erasure. The museum's efforts to bring these exhibitions and publications to the public serve as a platform for fostering a deeper understanding of Lithuanian culture, history, and the arts, appealing to both local audiences and international visitors interested in the region's rich past.
