Three counterfeit 50 euro bills found in Šiauliai and Utena
Authorities in Šiauliai and Utena have discovered counterfeit 50 euro notes during recent investigations, prompting criminal inquiries into the production and distribution of fake currency.
The Šiauliai County Police reported on Wednesday that they received a statement from a specialist at the Lithuanian Bank's Cash Department regarding counterfeit 50 euro bills. Specifically, two fake bills were found during cash collection at an ATM on Aido Street and in a pharmacy on Tilžės Street on February 18. This discovery has raised concerns about the circulation of counterfeit money within the region.
Similarly, the Utena County Police received a matching report for another fake 50 euro note that was presented on February 9 at a business located on Metalo Street. The consistent pattern of counterfeit bills raises flags regarding where these bills originated and how many are currently in circulation. Authorities are already treating these incidents seriously, opening pre-trial investigations into the matter.
The implications of these findings could be significant, as counterfeit currency not only undermines trust in the financial system but can also lead to increased crime in the area. The police are encouraging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or counterfeit bills to help combat this issue effectively.
