Flood of counterfeit money - fake 50 euro banknotes found in Šiauliai and Utena

Police discovered multiple counterfeit 50 euro banknotes in two Lithuanian cities, Šiauliai and Utena.

On February 18, police in Šiauliai received reports from the Lithuanian Bank's Cash Department regarding counterfeit 50 euro banknotes. During a cash collection at an ATM on Aido Street, a fake banknote was identified and seized. In addition, another counterfeit bill was discovered during the cash collection at a pharmacy on Tilžės Street on the same day.

Authorities were also alerted in Utena, where on February 9, a counterfeit 50 euro note was presented at a company located on Metalo Street, raising concerns about the circulation of fake currency. The findings have prompted police investigations to determine the origins of these counterfeit notes and to prevent further distribution within the community.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of counterfeiting in Lithuania, which poses risks not only to consumers but also to businesses and the financial system. Citizens are being advised to be vigilant while handling cash and to report any suspicious banknotes to the authorities.
