There were nearly 500 counterfeit bills in Finland last year
Finland reported finding 483 counterfeit euro bills in 2022, a decrease from previous years.
Last year, Finland discovered a total of 483 counterfeit euro banknotes, as reported by the Bank of Finland. This figure represents a decline from earlier years, with 714 counterfeit bills recorded in 2021 and 653 in 2020. Notably, among the counterfeit notes found in 2022, the 50 euro denominations were the most common, with a total of 251 detected, followed by 130 counterfeit 20 euro notes and 47 counterfeit 10 euro notes.
Olli Vehmas, a cash expert at the Bank of Finland, remarked that the number of counterfeit bills in Finland remains low compared to the broader Eurozone. This suggests a level of effectiveness in both law enforcement and public awareness regarding money counterfeiting. The decline in the number of counterfeit bills could also indicate that counterfeiting efforts are being kept at bay, perhaps due to increasing advancements in banknote security measures or effective detection strategies among the public.
For those looking to verify the authenticity of banknotes, the Bank of Finland has made available resources and guidance on its website. This serves to educate the public and promote vigilance against potential counterfeit currency, further emphasizing the importance of maintaining the security and integrity of the currency circulation in Finland.
