Drunk drivers wreak havoc in the capital, Vilnius region, and Klaipėda

Drunk driving incidents were reported in Vilnius and surrounding areas, with multiple drivers exceeding legal blood alcohol limits and causing accidents.

Incidents of drunken driving have surged in Vilnius and its vicinity, highlighting a concerning pattern of reckless behavior on the roads. At approximately 3:50 AM, a Volvo driven by a 32-year-old man, who had a blood alcohol level of 1.99 per mille, crashed into a pole at a roundabout between Žaliųjų Ežerų and Visalaukio streets.

In another incident around 4:53 PM in the Vilnius District, a Fiat collided with a Volkswagen before fleeing the scene. The 37-year-old Fiat driver was found to have a staggering blood alcohol level of 2.83 per mille, underlining the severity of the drunken driving problem in the region. Such high levels of intoxication not only jeopardize the lives of those driving under the influence but also pose significant risks to other road users.

In a related report, police in Klaipėda received a complaint from a 33-year-old man who was assaulted while attempting to intervene in a separate incident involving a potentially intoxicated BMW driver. This series of events has prompted authorities to consider stricter measures to address the rising trend of impaired driving and ensure public safety on the roads, as communities grapple with the consequences of such dangerous behavior.
