New agreements for US LNG via Greece

A joint venture in Greece has signed long-term agreements to sell US liquefied natural gas to several countries, enhancing energy cooperation in the region.

At a recent ministerial meeting on transatlantic energy cooperation held in Washington, Atlantic SEE LNG Trade, a joint venture of AKTOR Group and DEPA Commercial, secured long-term agreements for the sale of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) with four countries from the Vertical Corridor. The agreements were signed by the company's CEO, Alexandros Exarchou, and involve key players including Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, Bulgaria's BULGARGAZ, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Aluminij Industries and M.T. Abraham Group, and Ukraine's Naftogaz. This move marks a significant step towards diversifying energy sources and improving energy security in Southeast Europe.

The ministerial meeting, organized by the White House and the US National Energy Dominance Council, highlighted the growing importance of transatlantic energy cooperation amidst shifting global energy dynamics. It was chaired by Doug Burgum, the US Secretary of the Interior, and Chris Wright, the US Secretary of Energy. The participation of Greece’s Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, among representatives from 22 countries underscores Greece's strategic role in the energy sector, particularly in connecting the US with European markets.

These agreements are not only pivotal for the countries involved but also reflect a broader geopolitical strategy to reduce reliance on Russian energy supplies by fostering stronger ties with the United States. As Europe seeks to enhance its energy independence, such partnerships are likely to play a crucial role in shaping future energy policies and ensuring supply stability in the region.
