Teachers of Alytus Gymnasium Halt Educational Process: Demand the Reinstatement of Dismissed Teacher
Teachers at A. Adolfo-Vanago Gymnasium in Alytus have halted the educational process, demanding the reinstatement of a dismissed colleague and the establishment of an independent commission to investigate the situation.
In a significant move reflecting the concerns of the educational community, teachers at A. Adolfo-Vanago Gymnasium in Alytus, Lithuania, have decided to suspend their involvement in the educational process. This decision comes in light of the dismissal of ethics teacher M. Platūkienė, which has sparked outrage among the teaching staff and the wider educational community. They are calling for the reinstatement of Platūkienė and the formation of an independent commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding her dismissal.
During a recent meeting, teachers affiliated with the Lithuanian Education and Science Workers Union (LŠDPS) voiced their collective discontent with the actions of the school's administration, specifically targeting the temporary head of the gymnasium, Aleksandras Kirilovas. Despite their attempts to engage Kirilovas for a dialogue and seek his response to the situation, the teachers have reported receiving no communication from him. This lack of engagement has led the teachers to escalate their appeal to the mayor of Alytus, Nerijus Cesiulis, yet they claim that they also did not receive any support from the mayor's office.
The educational community's response to the dismissal has been overwhelmingly negative, with protests and public statements condemning the school's director's decision. The situation highlights significant unrest within the local educational system, showcasing not only the staunch support for the dismissed teacher but also a challenge to administrative decisions that are perceived as unjust.
