Teachers in Alytus demand the municipality to dismiss the school principal
Teachers from Alytus gymnasium are protesting and demanding the dismissal of the acting principal due to allegations of violence and misconduct.
Teachers from Alytus Adolfo Ramanausko-Vanago gymnasium are voicing their concerns and taking action by protesting against the temporary principal, Aleksandr Kirilov, in the wake of the dismissal of their colleague, M. Platūkienė. They are heading to the Alytus municipality to meet with Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis, where the head of the teachers' professional organization will formally request Kirilov's removal from his position. This protest comes as several teachers recently halted the educational process to express their dissatisfaction with the handling of internal matters at the school.
Alytaus municipality has claimed ignorance regarding the teachers' strike, labeling it as illegal. This assertion echoes the tempers flaring within the educational environment, especially after Kirilov stated that Platūkienė was dismissed following two incidents of violence against students. Platūkienė, however, denies these allegations and plans to contest her dismissal in court. As the situation unfolds, the teachers’ union also reported new instances of misconduct by Kirilov, which he vehemently denies, indicating a broader struggle for accountability and fair treatment in the school.
The ongoing dispute highlights the tensions between educators and school administration, drawing attention to issues of violence, employee rights, and the processes surrounding school governance. As the unions and local government engage in this conflict, the implications for the school's environment and future operations could be significant, potentially reshaping the dynamics between the administration, educators, and the students they serve.
