We reveal the Polish-Hungarian network. Included are Piebiak, neo-judges of the Supreme Court, Czarnek, and the former deputy president of the Constitutional Tribunal
A large group of Polish lawyers and beneficiaries of the PiS power in Poland is reportedly collaborating with a network of Hungarian law professors closely aligned with Viktor Orban's Fidesz party.
For the past two years, a significant number of Polish lawyers and beneficiaries of the ruling PiS party have been collaborating with a Hungarian network of law professors that ideologically aligns with Viktor Orban's Fidesz party. This network represents an international cadre of lawyers who seek to advance a right-wing agenda within the European Union using legal frameworks. The collaboration raises concerns about the implications for the integrity of European legal standards and values.
Prominent members of this Polish-Hungarian network include individuals who have gained positions of power during the time of PiS governance. Some of these legal figures have participated in dismantling the independence of the Polish judiciary under the United Right government. Notably, the network includes PiS MP and former Minister of Education Przemysław Czarnek, who has implemented significant reforms in the educational sector and is mentioned as a possible PiS candidate for prime minister.
Also present in this network is former Deputy Minister of Education as well as judges who supported controversial reforms by Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro aimed at the judiciary. Among them is Judge Łukasz Piebiak, a key figure in a scandal involving a smear campaign against judges defending the rule of law. The revelation of this network underscores the intertwining of political power and judicial independence in Poland and raises alarms about the potential erosion of legal standards in the EU.
