Federal government will anticipate the payment of Bolsa Família and BPC for those affected by floods in MG

Brazil's interim President Geraldo Alckmin announced the early disbursement of Bolsa Família and BPC benefits to families affected by severe flooding in Minas Gerais.

In response to the devastating floods in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, interim President Geraldo Alckmin declared an early payment of the Bolsa Família and BPC (Benefício de Prestação Continuada) to assist impacted families. This measure aims to provide immediate financial relief to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods in the disaster that resulted in over 20 fatalities and thousands of displaced individuals.

Alckmin also disclosed that a fund of R$800 per displaced person will be allocated to municipalities, which is intended for purchasing mattresses and essential supplies for those affected. While he did not disclose the overall investment amount for this initiative, approximately eight municipalities have been severely impacted. The financial support will come from the Ministry of Social Development, which is actively coordinating the assistance to ensure it reaches those in need promptly.

In addition to the monetary aid, the government is also considering providing housing options through the Minha Casa Minha Vida program to bolster local infrastructure. The Brazilian Ministry of Defense has already deployed helicopters, vehicles, and troops to assist in rescue operations and provide support to the Fire Department, highlighting the government's urgent response to the crisis caused by the flooding.
