Solidarity campaign in Três Rios collects donations for residents of Juiz de Fora and Matias Barbosa
A solidarity campaign in Três Rios is collecting donations to support residents affected by flooding in nearby Juiz de Fora and Matias Barbosa.
In response to severe rainstorms impacting the municipalities of Juiz de Fora and Matias Barbosa in Minas Gerais, the city government of Três Rios in Rio de Janeiro has initiated a donation drive to assist those affected. The campaign was announced on the 24th and is supported by the city's Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS), which are serving as collection points for the donated items. These centers are strategically located in various neighborhoods, including Vila Isabel, Habitat, Triângulo, and the city center, operating daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Additionally, the São Sebastião Parish has joined the effort by facilitating donations at the Centro Pastoral Santo Arnaldo Janssen, which is open for contributions on weekdays from 3 PM to 7 PM. Community members are encouraged to prioritize specific essential items to ensure effective support for those affected by the flooding. Juiz de Fora is approximately 60 kilometers from Três Rios, while Matias Barbosa is an even shorter distance of 45 kilometers away, emphasizing the local interconnectivity and the urgent need for assistance following the natural disaster.
This initiative not only highlights the communal spirit of solidarity in times of crisis but also underscores the importance of local government and faith-based organizations working together to provide relief to impacted areas. As the rainy season continues, these efforts may expand further to address the growing needs of the communities suffering from the consequences of extreme weather events.
