Vulnerability rape in MG: Public Ministry intends to appeal to higher courts if the acquittal of the defendant is maintained
The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais plans to appeal to higher courts if the acquittal of a defendant accused of the rape of a minor is upheld by local courts.
The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) has announced plans to escalate its efforts to challenge the acquittal of a 35-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Indianópolis, located in the Triângulo Mineiro region. This response comes after a second-instance court decision, which absolved the defendant and the victim's mother from an initial conviction of over nine years' imprisonment. The prosecutor, André Ubaldino, who leads MPMG's Superior Courts Coordination, expressed the institution's commitment to seeking justice for the victim, indicating that if necessary, they will pursue the case in the Superior Tribunal of Justice (STJ) and the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
