President of the NB8 Countries Commit to Continue Supporting Ukraine with 12 Billion Euros Planned This Year
The presidents of eight Nordic and Baltic countries have pledged to continue support for Ukraine, committing to 12 billion euros in aid this year while condemning Russian aggression.
In a collective statement signed by the leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the NB8 presidents condemned Russiaβs aggression and called for the immediate cessation of its illegal invasion. They reiterated their steadfast commitment to Ukraineβs independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as recognized by international borders, and emphasized that any lasting peace must be grounded in international law, rejecting any legitimization of border changes through force.
The leaders also highlighted Ukraine's readiness to negotiate for peace, in contrast to Russia's delay tactics in the process. They pointed to the necessity of reliable and legally binding security guarantees to deter further aggression and ensure long-term stability in Europe. The statement underscored that the collaboration of Nordic and Baltic states is crucial in supporting Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.
This commitment comes as the NB8 countries, comprising Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden, continue to express solidarity with Ukraine. The financial pledge of 12 billion euros signifies a significant collective investment not only in Ukraine's defense against aggression but also in the broader stability and security of the European region in light of ongoing tensions with Russia.
