On the fourth anniversary of the Ukraine-Russia full-scale war, Nordic-Baltic leaders visited Kyiv and pledged unwavering support to Ukraine, including military aid from Estonia.
On the fourth anniversary of the Ukraine-Russia full-scale war, leaders from the Nordic-Baltic region, collectively known as NB8, visited Kyiv to express their enduring support for Ukraine. During this visit, Estonia committed to providing Ukraine with €11 million for air defense systems and ammunition as part of the NATO-initiated PURL initiative. This commitment underscores the ongoing military assistance the NB8 countries are willing to offer amidst the continuing conflict.
The atmosphere in Ukraine remains tense as it grapples with uncertainties regarding its future. Although the severe cold weather conditions previously faced, with temperatures dropping to minus 18 degrees Celsius, have eased, the implications of four years of war still loom large. As a show of solidarity, the NB8 leaders, including prominent figures like Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and EU leaders, participated in a prayer at St. Sophia's Cathedral. They also laid memorial candles in Maidan Square to honor fallen Ukrainian heroes, showcasing their support and remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives during the conflict.
Ukrainian President Zelensky acknowledged the significance of the NB8 as one of Ukraine's strongest allies in the fight against Russian aggression. The visit and ceremonial acts highlight the international community's commitment to supporting Ukraine as it navigates through uncertain waters and prepares for an unpredictable future, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among nations in the face of rising militaristic threats from Russia.
