Justice maintains Volkswagen's conviction for work akin to slavery in Pará

In a ruling on Tuesday, the 24th, Brazil's Regional Labor Court upheld a previous conviction against Volkswagen for labor practices analogous to slavery that occurred between the 1970s and 1980s in the state of Pará. The court confirmed the company must pay R$ 165 million in collective moral damages, a decision originally made in August of the previous year. This significant amount is directed to the State Fund for the Promotion of Dignified Work and the Eradication of Conditions Similar to Slavery in Pará (Funtrad/PA).

The court's ruling not only enforces financial restitution but also mandates Volkswagen to implement policies ensuring that such labor violations do not occur in the future.
