The collision took place in the express lane heading towards São Paulo, at kilometer 89, within the municipality of Guarulhos, part of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, where traffic became heavily congested starting from kilometer 87 due to the incident.

The accident involved a bus operated by Viação Santa Cruz, which reportedly collided with the rear of a truck. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the bus driver sustaining fatal injuries. Additionally, six passengers from the bus were injured; however, their current medical statuses have not been disclosed.
