Accident leaves one dead and six injured on the Fernão Dias Highway, towards São Paulo
A serious accident involving a bus and a truck on the Fernão Dias Highway resulted in one fatality and six injuries.
On the morning of Wednesday, October 4, a tragic accident occurred on the Fernão Dias Highway, the primary route connecting São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. The collision took place in the express lane heading towards São Paulo, at kilometer 89, within the municipality of Guarulhos, part of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, where traffic became heavily congested starting from kilometer 87 due to the incident.
The accident involved a bus operated by Viação Santa Cruz, which reportedly collided with the rear of a truck. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the bus driver sustaining fatal injuries. Additionally, six passengers from the bus were injured; however, their current medical statuses have not been disclosed. The front of the bus was significantly damaged due to the crash, highlighting the force of the collision. Emergency response teams, including the Fire Department and SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service), were on-site to provide assistance to the victims.
As investigations continue, the Federal Highway Police have yet to determine whether the bus was operating on a chartered basis or a regular route.
