A man from Šiauliai, wanted by authorities since 2021, was captured by border officials in Lithuania after failing to present proper identification in a monitored border zone.
On Monday, VSAT officers from the Vilnius border unit apprehended a 54-year-old man from Šiauliai, who had been wanted since August 2021, while patrolling near the village of Vebliai in Lithuania. The apprehension was prompted by the suspect's suspicious presence in the controlled border area, where he was walking without necessary identification to confirm his identity and citizenship.
The incident began when the border monitoring system operator detected two individuals crossing through a rural area close to the border. A patrol was dispatched to check on their activities, which ultimately led to the discovery that the older individual, who claimed to be visiting a friend’s purchased property, was actually on a wanted list published over five years ago due to unspecified legal issues. The lack of identification documents raised suspicions about his intentions in the sensitive border zone.
