Of this number, 1,355 Ukrainians remained in the city, while a large portion, 2,439 people, accessed local municipal support through the coordination point for assistance to Ukrainian civilians. This initiative stems from the ongoing need to support these populations amid the crisis in Ukraine.
During the past year, the Social Service of Daugavpils municipality rendered aid to over 835 Ukrainian civilians, totaling 1,043,419 euros in various forms of assistance. The support covered essential needs, including housing benefits, guaranteed minimum income allowances, healthcare support, child nutrition assistance, and compensation for emergency guardianship duties. This proactive approach highlights the municipality's commitment to providing necessary resources for those affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
As of January 1, 2026, there were 119 Ukrainian students registered in the local educational institutions of Daugavpils. Among these, four were enrolled in the Daugavpils Design and Art School, indicating the continued integration of Ukrainian families into the community. These educational initiatives are critical for supporting the children of refugees, helping them to adapt and continue their education in a new environment while fostering a sense of belonging in Daugavpils.
