Travel Card has been given an expiration date

The physical Rejsekort will be phased out by May 28, with users transitioning to using the Rejsekort app or a new Basiskort.

The Rejsekort, a physical travel card widely used in Denmark since its introduction in 2011, is set to be discontinued in its physical form, with the last day for checking in using the card being May 28. This announcement was made in a press release from Rejsekort. The decision reflects a broader trend towards digitalization within public transportation systems, streamlining the user experience and reducing the reliance on physical cards.

From now on, travelers will be able to use the Rejsekort app, which offers similar functionalities to the physical card, allowing users to check in and out seamlessly. Additionally, for those who prefer a physical option, a new Basiskort will be available as an alternative. These changes aim to make public transport more user-friendly and efficient, aligning with modern travel habits and technology.

Importantly, users who still have a balance on their physical Rejsekort will have their funds automatically transferred to their NemKonto, ensuring a smooth transition without financial loss. This initiative could potentially encourage more users to embrace the digital application while phasing out outdated physical cards, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience in Denmark.
