Flight Tickets Skyrocket Before Holi, Double Fares on Many Routes

Air travel prices have surged ahead of the Holi festival, with ticket costs on several routes nearly doubling.

As the festival of Holi approaches, many people are returning home, leading to increased demand for transportation. Long waiting lists on trains and a scramble for bus seats are expected as the holiday nears. In response, the Indian Railways has introduced special trains for the occasion, but air travel has seen a significant rise in prices, with ticket costs soaring in the lead-up to the festival.

Prices for flights on various routes have reportedly doubled, making it challenging for travelers to find affordable options. For example, flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna are now exceedingly costly. Ticket prices have started from over ₹7,000 right before Holi and may drop to around ₹5,500 on the day of the festival itself, but this indicates a stark contrast before and after the holiday period, showcasing the high demand.

This sudden spike in flight prices can lead to financial strain for those wishing to travel for the festival, particularly for families returning home for celebrations. The anticipated travel rush suggests that individuals must plan adequately and book tickets well in advance to avoid excessive fares, highlighting the impact of seasonal travel on airfare and accessibility.
