KNAB does not see hidden pre-election campaigning in the Dailes Theatre production 'Order No. 2'

The Latvian Anti-Corruption Bureau (KNAB) found no evidence of hidden political campaigning in the Dailes Theatre's production, despite concerns raised by politician Šlesers.

The Latvian politician Šlesers requested the Anti-Corruption Bureau (KNAB) to prevent a public performance of the theatre production 'Order No. 2' during the pre-election campaigning period, claiming it may serve as indirect political campaigning against him and his party, LPV. However, KNAB responded to Šlesers, stating that they currently lack sufficient information to classify the planned Dailes Theatre production as hidden campaign activity. This indicates that the bureau deemed the production not in violation of any regulations regarding political campaigning.

Šlesers reacted negatively to KNAB's response, likening the bureau to the watchdog of the 'New Unity' party, insinuating that they are biased and protective of their political allies. He argues for the elimination of KNAB altogether, expressing his dissatisfaction with the agency's decision-making and its implications for political fairness. His comments reflect a growing frustration among politicians regarding perceived biases in institutions responsible for election oversight and political integrity.

This incident underscores ongoing tensions between political figures and regulatory bodies in Latvia, particularly as elections approach. The responses from both Šlesers and KNAB could influence public perception of the integrity of both political entities and independent oversight institutions like KNAB, affecting future electoral processes and trust in governance.
