KNAB will evaluate the content of the Dailes Theatre performance regarding Zatlers' order 'No. 2'
The KNAB will assess the content of a performance related to Zatlers' order once it is shown, emphasizing the importance of artistic freedom unless there is clear political agitation.
The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) in Latvia has stated that it will evaluate the content of an upcoming Dailes Theatre performance connected to former president Zatlers' order labeled 'No. 2'. This announcement was made during a session of the Saeima's Defense, Internal Affairs, and Corruption Prevention Committee. KNAB chief Jēkabs Straume conveyed that while the performance has not yet taken place, the bureau is currently unable to confirm any issues surrounding it, stating, 'we have not identified anything at this moment.'
Despite the absence of the performance, it is clear that KNAB representatives will scrutinize its content once it is presented. Straume highlighted the significance of artistic activity and the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution, assuring that the bureau would not interfere unless there was evident promotion of political agendas in the performance. He reaffirmed the importance of these freedoms while acknowledging the bureau's duty to address political agitation if it arises.
Moreover, Straume could not comment on whether KNAB would request the suspension of the performance if political agitation is found within it. He noted that if any agitation is detected, especially if funded, the experts would need to make a decision on how to address the situation, indicating that the bureau is prepared to intervene if necessary, balancing electoral integrity with artistic expression.
