Two children robbed 600,000... The victim was here to treat his daughter from abroad
The Delhi police swiftly solved a robbery case involving a Uzbek national visiting India for his daughter's cancer treatment after his significant amount of money was stolen by two children.
In a troubling incident, an Uzbek national who traveled to India for his minor daughter’s cancer treatment reported a theft of a large amount of money while visiting the Jama Masjid area in Delhi. The victim had kept $7,200, roughly over 600,000 Indian Rupees, in a sling bag instead of leaving it at the hotel for security reasons. He fell prey to thieving children who took advantage of the crowds. The case was reported on January 15, and the Delhi police promptly registered an e-FIR at the Jama Masjid police station.
Recognizing the urgency and sensitivity of the case given the context of medical emergency involving a foreign national, the police focused their efforts on gathering evidence. They examined surveillance footage from numerous cameras in the vicinity of the robbery. This led them to identify two minor siblings, aged 15 and 13 years, as suspects—a breakthrough made possible through CCTV evidence and local intelligence.
The police acted quickly, apprehending the young thieves along with their father, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen funds. The case underscores the challenges faced by foreign nationals in urban areas and the need for heightened vigilance to protect them, especially in times of distress such as medical emergencies. The swift action from the Delhi police not only helped the victim recover his funds but also serves as a reminder about the precautions needed while traveling in crowded places.
