Warning – the cold will still press at night: announcing when it will be the coldest
Lithuania is bracing for cold temperatures, with forecasts predicting nighttime lows to reach between -4 and -14 degrees Celsius.
Lithuania is experiencing a wave of cold weather, with significant temperature drops expected throughout the coming nights. On Wednesday night, the skies will remain mostly cloudy, but they will begin to clear in northern regions by early morning. Light snowfall is expected in the eastern part of the country, while northwestern winds will blow at speeds of 6–11 meters per second. The influx of cold air will push temperatures down to between -4 and -9 degrees Celsius, and in northern areas where skies clear earlier, temperatures could plummet to between -10 and -14 degrees Celsius. This cold snap will also create icy conditions on wet roads and sidewalks.
On Wednesday, a high-pressure system will build in the region, causing clouds to disperse and allowing the sun to shine through. Weather forecasts indicate no precipitation during the day, with relatively mild winds that drift from various directions. During the daytime, temperatures will remain between -5 degrees Celsius and 0 degrees Celsius, providing a brief reprieve from the harsh nighttime chill. However, the wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow may lead to hazardous driving conditions as the summer continues.
Heading into Thursday, the weather in Lithuania will be influenced by an anticyclone, maintaining variable cloudiness and no precipitation expected. Overnight and in the morning, fog may blanket certain areas. Winds will shift from the south, initially light at night before gaining strength during the day, suggesting a continuation of cold and potentially slippery conditions on the road.
