The Return of Winter Cold: Temperatures Dropped Significantly Below Forecasted Levels

Lithuania experienced a significant drop in temperatures, reaching as low as -27 degrees Celsius in some places, with expectations for continued cold weather before warmer temperatures return.

Lithuania has recently faced a notable drop in temperatures, with Sunday showing highs between -5 to -10 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures plummeting to between -21 to -27 degrees. Some regions, particularly Joniškis, Ukmergė, and Mažeikiai, recorded the lowest temperatures, hitting -27.0 degrees, although this is still above the historical record of -32.3 degrees set 60 years ago in Biržai.

The cold snap is expected to continue for several days, as forecasters indicate that high-pressure systems will influence the weather, resulting in mostly clear skies and minimal snow in the coming days. This weather pattern will see temperatures hovering around -6 to -11 degrees during the daytime, with winds expected to be light and from the south at 5-10 m/sec.

Despite the chill, the Lithuanian meteorological service reassured the public that warmer weather will return after this period of cold, giving insight into the dynamic nature of Lithuania's winter weather patterns. As the country adapts to this return of winter, residents are encouraged to brace for the cool temperatures while looking forward to a shift back to milder conditions soon.
