30-year-old man flaunts counterfeit bills worth 6 billion won while meeting women
A 30-year-old man was arrested for showing off counterfeit bills totaling 6 billion won after his ex-girlfriend attempted to cash them.
A 33-year-old man, identified by the surname G, was arrested and charged with violating the Law on the Punishment of Counterfeit Notes after he flaunted over 6,000 counterfeit 1 million won banknotes, totaling around 6 billion won, to impress women. His downfall began when his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old B, tried to cash a portion of these counterfeit notes at a bank in Gunpo, leading to police involvement and an investigation. The police subsequently discovered additional counterfeit notes in B's residence during a search, further implicating her in the crime.
The police had initially received a report about B trying to cash counterfeit bills at a local bank. Further investigation revealed that G had been living with B and using the counterfeit money to lead a lavish lifestyle, claiming to be an alumnus of a university in Seoul and working in the entertainment industry. Using a trick where he stamped the back of the fake banknotes with βsampleβ to disguise them, G misled several women into believing he was wealthy for years before his scheme unraveled due to B's actions to cash in the counterfeit bills.
During questioning, B claimed she had borrowed money from G and was unaware of the bills being counterfeit at first, but later evidence suggested she had sufficient knowledge of their true nature when she attempted to cash them. The police expressed concern over the widespread implications of counterfeit money entering the financial system, underscoring the potential chaos it could cause to national financial integrity if such notes were circulated widely.
