City Hall triples services to the population at Hmut in 2025
The Municipal University Hospital of Taubaté has tripled the number of services provided to the population in 2025 compared to the previous year.
In a significant development, the Municipal University Hospital of Taubaté (Hmut) reported a tripling of the number of services offered to the population in 2025, serving 335,737 patients, which marks a 213% increase compared to 2024. This surge establishes Hmut as a key healthcare institution for approximately 2.6 million residents across the 39 municipalities it serves. The analysis of service delivery particularly highlights the months from January to December in both years, indicating a robust increase in healthcare access during this period.
Moreover, Hmut has also seen a 21% rise in hospital admissions, with 8,814 patients hospitalized in 2025 compared to 7,240 in 2024. This increase is tied to enhancements in capacity, with the number of hospital beds increasing from 137 to 190 due to stronger enforcement of health service agreements by the Municipal Health Secretary. The expanded facilities included an increase in adult ICU beds, which doubled from 10 to 20, allowing for improved critical care capacity within the hospital.
In addition to general patient services and admissions, the hospital also reported a doubling in surgical procedures performed compared to the previous year. These improvements reflect a concerted effort by local government to enhance healthcare services, ensuring that the hospital meets the growing needs of the community it serves, amidst rising demands and patient numbers.
