Riga Zoo announces the names of the 'fantastic five' capybara pups
The Riga Zoo has announced the names of five new capybara pups: Andu, Frīda, Straume, Tamis, and Maksimuss Otto, following a public naming contest.
At the Riga Zoo, five capybara pups recently welcomed into their family have been named Andu, Frīda, Straume, Tamis, and Maksimuss Otto. The selection process for these names was quite challenging due to the overwhelming number of creative and heartfelt suggestions received from the public. The zoo representatives expressed gratitude for the community engagement in this naming event.
The birth of the capybara pups took place last autumn, marking a significant increase in the zoo's capybara population. From three adult capybaras, the zoo's count rose to eight in just under a month after the pups' arrival. All five pups are reported to be healthy and energetic, thriving alongside three adult capybaras named Oskars, Tindra, and Trusis. The zoo has noted that the pups are increasingly exploring their surroundings and adapting well to their environment.
Riga Zoo also offers live streaming of the capybaras for visitors, allowing the public to observe these fascinating animals throughout the day, except during cleaning times. This initiative not only enhances visitor engagement but also promotes an appreciation for wildlife and raises awareness about the importance of animal conservation.
