Clean Monday: The return of holidaymakers is in full swing – Where there is traffic
Traffic is increasing as holidaymakers return to Attica after Clean Monday celebrations, with congestion reported on major highways.
As the Clean Monday holiday comes to a close, the return of holidaymakers to Attica is witnessing significant traffic congestion on major highways such as the Athens-Corinth and Athens-Lamia routes. Specifically, on the Athens-Corinth highway, traffic is particularly heavy from the Isthmus to the Elefsina tolls, with vehicles experiencing slow speeds in some areas. The greatest delays are reported just before Agioi Theodoroi and in Megara.
Similar conditions are observed on the Athens-Lamia route, where increased traffic is noted from Schimatari to Malessina, as well as around the Afidnes tolls. According to ELAS data, from 6 AM to 6 PM, a total of 49,738 vehicles have returned to Attica, with 22,072 via Athens-Lamia and 27,666 via Athens-Corinth, indicating the significant movement of people post-holiday.
Furthermore, Attiki Odos reports delays of approximately 10-15 minutes in the direction toward Elefsina, particularly from Paiania to Marathonas. This period of heightened traffic is typical following major holidays in Greece, as families and individuals return to the capital, impacting travel times and traffic management efforts.
