Real prison sentences handed to women who robbed an elderly couple
Two women have been sentenced to real prison terms for robbing an elderly couple in Lithuania, as their behavior poses a genuine danger to society.
On Monday, the Panevėžys District Court in Lithuania confirmed that the real prison sentences given to two women for robbing an elderly couple were appropriate and justified. The judges stated that the personalities of the convicted individuals represent a real threat to society and their behavior does not show any desire to change. This ruling comes in light of their actions during the commission of the crime, which involved a deceptive approach to distract the elderly victim while they secretly entered her home and stole money.
The robbery, which took place on April 7, 2023, in the Utena district, involved the two women working as a group of accomplices. They exploited the trust of the elderly house owner by engaging her in conversation and offering to sell her clothes while simultaneously breaking into her private residence. During the incident, they managed to steal 3,000 euros, money that was reportedly saved by the couple for firewood and home repairs, indicating the financial vulnerability of their victims.
Despite one of the women, R. Bieliauskienė, attempting to take full responsibility for the crime in court, the court dismissed this as a defensive tactic. Evidence proved that the women acted in collusion, not only by pretending to conduct a sale but also by wearing gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints in the victim's home. The quick resolution of the case was also aided by the actions of the elderly victim's son, highlighting the importance of family vigilance in preventing such crimes against vulnerable individuals.
