A Geographic Information System for Broadband Internet Accessibility Has Been Developed

Latvia has introduced a Geographic Information System to map broadband internet availability to enhance transparency and support planning in electronic communications policy.

The Ministry of Transport in Latvia, in collaboration with the Public Utilities Commission and SIA 'Electronic Communications', has developed a Geographic Information System (GIS) for broadband accessibility, known as PPĢIS. This system provides an online map with detailed information regarding access to broadband internet services across Latvia, as announced by the Ministry of Transport.

The PPĢIS online map will allow residents to access information about available internet services at specific addresses, which is vital for facilitating better connectivity across the nation. For businesses, this will enhance their ability to plan infrastructure development and investments more effectively, contributing to economic growth through improved digital services.

State Secretary Andulis Židkovs emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards data-driven governance. By ensuring transparent information about the availability of broadband electronic communication services, the GIS lays a foundation for quality electronic communication policy planning and supports the overall advancement of digitalization in Latvia.
