The City of Helsinki is looking to fill 3,500 job positions - here’s what they entail

The City of Helsinki has made 3,500 summer and seasonal job vacancies available across various sectors to support youth employment and workforce integration.

This year, the City of Helsinki is opening applications for 3,500 summer and seasonal job positions in a range of fields, including healthcare, design internships, kitchen work, office and customer service roles, youth activity supervision, and park maintenance. The application period began on February 23rd, with many positions currently available and new opportunities expected to arise weekly, according to the City’s official website.

A significant portion of the summer jobs, around one thousand positions, are specifically targeted toward young people. This initiative aims to provide young individuals, particularly those without prior work experience or those needing assistance in job searching, with opportunities to enter the workforce. Petri Lumijärvi, the personnel director of the City of Helsinki, emphasized in a press release that securing a first summer or seasonal job can be a crucial step toward further educational and career paths for these youths.

In terms of compensation, summer jobs for young workers are set at a monthly wage of 1,100 euros, while wages for other positions comply with relevant collective agreements, likely resulting in higher earnings. This recruitment drive reflects the City’s commitment to supporting local youth and addressing employment challenges, especially in light of current economic conditions.
