Protest demands justice for cyclists killed in an accident on a highway in RS
Friends and family held a protest to honor two cyclists who were killed in a road accident, demanding justice and greater respect for cyclists.
In Três Coroas, Brazil, friends and family gathered to honor the memory of Clarissa Felipetti and Fernanda Mikaella, two cyclists tragically killed in a road accident on highway ERS-115. The cyclists were struck while biking along the roadside with Isac Emanuel Ribeiro da Silva, who is Clarissa’s husband and was severely injured in the accident. The group gathered at the accident site, employing white balloons and banners to demand justice for the victims and raise awareness about the risks cyclists face on the roads.
The accident occurred during what was supposed to be a pleasant 100 km biking outing. Clarissa and Fernanda died at the scene of the accident, highlighting the grim reality of road safety for cyclists in Brazil. Family and friends organized the protest not only to mourn their loss but also to push for respect for cyclists and better policies to protect them from traffic accidents. Isac, who was seriously injured, is currently receiving intensive care at Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças in Canoas, triggering further concern for the community over cycling safety.
The memorial services were held shortly after the incident, signifying a somber moment for the local cycling community. Friends and family attended the funerals, where both cyclists were remembered not just as victims but as individuals who contributed to the cycling culture in the region. The protest and the mourning ceremonies emphasize a broader call for action regarding road safety regulations, aiming to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future and to ensure a safer environment for all cyclists.
