Police operation against attempted extortion of businessman in SP; three people are targets of arrest warrants
The Sao Paulo Civil Police conducted an operation against an attempted extortion involving a businessman from the security sector, issuing three arrest warrants.
On Monday, the Civil Police of São Paulo executed a major operation targeting a serious case of attempted extortion against a prominent businessman in the private security industry. The operation included the execution of three temporary arrest warrants and three search and seizure warrants, reflecting the serious nature of the allegations. This initiative was carried out by officers from the 2nd Cyber Crimes Division (DCCIBER) of the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC).
The investigation centers around an incident that occurred on December 11, 2025, when the primary suspect, Leandro de Moura Rodrigues, contacted the victim demanding a payment of R$ 325,000 while threatening to disclose alleged tax evasion. Following this initial threat, the suspect escalated the intimidation by using social media accounts belonging to his wife to threaten the victim's mother. As the threats intensified, the businessman sought assistance from the police, prompting a formal investigation to be launched.
This case not only sheds light on the challenges faced by business owners in Brazil regarding extortion attempts but also highlights the proactive efforts of law enforcement in addressing such crimes.
