LAWMA urges traders, residents to use PSP operators

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has encouraged residents and traders to utilize Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators for waste disposal as part of its environmental sustainability initiatives.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is urging traders, residents, and transport operators along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to properly dispose of their waste via assigned Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators. This call to action comes as LAWMA has initiated sizable cleaning and evacuation operations along the expressway corridor. The initiative was publicly disclosed by the Lagos State Government through its official social media channels, indicating the state's commitment to improving waste management in the area.

During a recent monitoring exercise conducted at identified waste blackspots, LAWMA's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, highlighted that this effort is part of a larger strategy aimed at enhancing compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainability. By deploying heavy-duty carriers and loaders to clear illegal dump sites, LAWMA is tackling the persistent issues of waste disposal and environmental degradation. They commenced bulk waste evacuation efforts specifically in problematic areas like Alaba Rago along the corridor, demonstrating a proactive approach to environmental management.

In his statement, Gbadegesin emphasized the importance of individuals adhering to waste disposal protocols by exclusively using the designated PSP operators. This enforcement of proper waste management practices is vital for maintaining a clean environment and achieving long-term sustainability goals in Lagos State. The intervention not only emphasizes the immediate need for effective waste disposal but also raises awareness regarding the obligations of residents and local businesses in supporting environmental initiatives.
