Bahraich: More than 13 thousand government books sold as scrap! 4 arrested
In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, four officials were arrested for selling over 13,000 government school textbooks as scrap, leading to significant administrative action.
In a major scandal in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, the basic education department has faced severe scrutiny after it was discovered that over 13,000 government textbooks meant for children were sold at scrap prices. Following a report from a five-member investigative committee, District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi found several departmental officials guilty. Consequently, he suspended two subordinates and dismissed three employees, while initiating departmental action against three other officers, as many books were reportedly being sent unlawfully to Uttarakhand through scrap dealers.
The investigation unveiled that the mastermind behind this extensive fraud was an employee from the BSA (Basic Shiksha Adhikari) office. Driven by monetary gain, this individual orchestrated the sale of thousands of textbooks intended for free distribution to children. The police took expedited action, leading to the arrest of four suspects linked to the case, indicating a deeper web of corruption within the education system in Bahraich.
This incident raises critical questions about accountability within educational institutions and the safeguarding of resources intended for vulnerable communities. The alarming discovery not only underscores a significant betrayal of trust by those responsible for children’s education but also highlights the necessity for strict oversight and transparency within governmental departments to prevent such malpractices from occurring in the future.
