Producer 'JAKOPS' of 'XG' Arrested on Suspicion of Cocaine Possession
The producer known as 'JAKOPS' from the global music group 'XG' has been arrested in Japan for alleged possession of cocaine along with three others.
Junho Sakai, known as 'JAKOPS', a producer for the globally recognized seven-member group 'XG', was arrested on February 23 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police for allegedly possessing cocaine. Alongside Sakai, three others were also taken in for suspicion of violating Japan's narcotics control law due to their collective possession of cocaine, which reportedly occurred around midnight in a hotel in Aichi Prefecture. Investigators had gathered intelligence suggesting the individuals were using drugs, leading them to search the hotel room where, in addition to cocaine, dried cannabis was seized.
Sakai, known for his contributions under the names 'JAKOPS' and 'SIMON', is notable for his work in hip-hop and R&B, significantly impacting the music scene with 'XG'. The group was scheduled to hold concerts in Nagoya on the 21st and 22nd. The incident raises serious questions about drug use within the entertainment industry, particularly how it affects public figures and their influence on fans. With the increasing scrutiny over drug-related offenses in Japan, this arrest could have broader implications for the music industry and its artists.
The arrest highlights ongoing issues surrounding drug possession in Japan, which has strict laws against narcotics. The presence of high-profile artists being implicated in such cases can spark social concerns, especially regarding cultural trends and the pressure facing performers. As the investigation unfolds, it will be crucial to observe how this incident might affect 'XG's reputation and Sakai's career, alongside any legal repercussions that may arise from the ongoing inquiry into drug use in the profession.
