Iran secretly contracts with Russia for 'portable missiles' amid U.S. nuclear pressure
Iran has confirmed a secret deal with Russia for portable surface-to-air missiles amid U.S. pressure to abandon its nuclear program, marking a significant development in military cooperation between the two nations.
Iran has secured a covert contract with Russia for the delivery of portable surface-to-air missiles, including 500 units of the Verba and 2500 9M336 missiles. This deal comes amidst heightened military tensions in the Middle East, particularly following U.S. President Donald Trumpβs push for military buildup in the region. Reports indicate that the contract, which amounts to approximately β¬495 million, was finalized in December 2022 and is projected to facilitate deliveries over three years starting in 2027. The Verba missile system is known for its infrared guidance capabilities, allowing it to target cruise missiles, low-flying aircraft, and drones effectively, thus enhancing Iranβs defense capabilities.
