Former Unification Church Secretary Jeong Won-joo is being investigated by a joint team probing allegations of political bribery involving the Unification Church.
On the 23rd, the Joint Investigation Team headed by Kim Tae-hoon, the Chief Prosecutor of the Daejeon High Prosecutor's Office, summoned former Unification Church Secretary Jeong Won-joo for questioning regarding allegations of political bribery. Jeong, who oversaw the church's finances, is accused of being involved in the church's alleged monetary exchanges with politicians. Previously, former global leader of the church, Yoon Young-ho, stated in an investigation led by Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki that between 2018 and 2020, substantial sums were transferred to politicians including Jeon Jae-soo of the Democratic Party and Kim Kyu-hwan, former head of the Korea Coal Corporation.
