Mogi-Bertioga Closed Due to Heavy Rain in São Paulo
The Mogi-Bertioga highway in São Paulo was temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall affecting the region.
The Mogi-Bertioga highway (SP-098) in the state of São Paulo was temporarily closed in both directions on Sunday evening, specifically at 6:20 PM, due to safety concerns related to intense rainfall. The closure impacts the stretch between Mogi das Cruzes and Bertioga, two significant locations in Greater São Paulo, where the area has experienced around 225 millimeters of rain in the last 72 hours, exceeding safe operational limits for mountain stretches.
In response to this hazardous situation, motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as the Anchieta-Imigrantes system. The highway’s toll operator, Concessionária Novo Litoral (CNL), has implemented risk management programs and landslide monitoring systems since the beginning of its concession to ensure the safety of travelers and the integrity of the road infrastructure.
Technical teams are actively monitoring the weather conditions and conducting inspections to assess when traffic can safely resume. For ongoing updates, CNL has provided a helpline for drivers to obtain further information about the status of road conditions during this adverse weather event.
