Mogi-Bertioga Mountain Range is closed due to heavy rainfall
The Mogi-Bertioga mountain range in Brazil has been closed in both directions due to excessive rainfall since Sunday evening.
The Mogi-Bertioga mountain range (SP-098) was officially closed to traffic in both directions at 18:20 on Sunday (22) due to a significant volume of rain affecting the region. The closure, which is a precautionary measure, has not been attributed to any recorded incidents, according to CNL, the road concessionaire overseeing the highway. The blocked section extends from km 69.5 to km 98, and drivers are advised to use the Anchieta/Imigrantes highway system as an alternative route.
Reports indicate that in the past 72 hours, the area has experienced approximately 225 millimeters of rainfall, surpassing the levels deemed safe for the operation of this mountainous route. Authorities are taking these precautions seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of motorists as they face potential hazards resulting from adverse weather conditions. Inspections of the slopes and ongoing weather monitoring are in place to assess when it might be safe to reopen the road.
This year, the Mogi-Bertioga highway has already faced multiple closures due to safety precautions relating to adverse weather, with this incident further underlining the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in Brazilian mountainous regions. The continuous monitoring and preventive measures taken by CNL reflect the priority of maintaining road safety and responsiveness to changing environmental factors impacting transportation in the area.
