The Guaraú mountain range in Peruíbe, São Paulo, has been closed due to heavy rainfall leading to landslides and structural damage to the roadway.

The Guaraú mountain range section of the Guaraú Road in Peruíbe, São Paulo, has been officially closed since Saturday morning following severe rainfall that resulted in significant landslides. The Civil Defense reported that the area experienced 158 mm of rain in the hours leading up to the closure. Eyewitness reports and video footage released by the city council show torrents of water cascading down the hills, highlighting the dangers posed by the loose soil and compromised road conditions.

The heavy rains have raised serious safety concerns, as the integrity of the road infrastructure has been compromised, posing significant risks to motorists who may attempt to navigate the area. In response to the situation, local authorities have taken the precautionary measure of closing the road as part of the 'SP Sempre Alerta - Chuvas' contingency plan. This plan aims to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of residents and drivers in wake of the extreme weather conditions.

Additionally, the local government has announced that the Works Department will be mobilized to assess and repair the damage caused by the rainfall and landslides. These efforts are crucial not only to restore safe passage along the Guaraú Road but also to mitigate further risks associated with subsequent weather conditions that may affect the region.
